Culture Festival Maid

We are so proud to call ourselves Scottish, and we think it is a fantastic country in which to get married. Scotland offers a wealth of diverse wedding venues, from chic city hotels to romantic Highland castles. Whatever the vision for your wedding, you are sure to find a Scottish wedding venue to suit. And with Scotland's unique law on religious ceremonies and the recent legal change to civil ceremony licensing, the choice of ceremony has never been better. Our country overflows with history, castles, inspiring scenery, golf, whisky, fascinating culture and award winning food - all of which can be put to good use by an experienced wedding planner to captivate your guests or to enjoy during your Scottish honeymoon. There are a vast range of activities, fabulous hotels and great shopping to explore which will more than fill a 2 week break! We, of course, are biased, but please let us try to convert you to our way of thinking....

First and foremost, Scotland is a beautiful and historic place. It has long been known as a romantic venue for a wedding - imagine exchanging your vows in an ancient chapel, a candle-lit vault, a castle by a Loch or a beautiful ruin. With its beautiful countryside and abundance of stunning castles, Scotland offers one of the most romantic settings in the world. The weather, yes, can be dubious, but it can be beautiful, and our four distinctive seasons make for beautiful scenery - the flowers starting to bud in Spring with daffodils and crocuses offering a splash of background colour to your day. By summer the sun is shining on the water, flowers everywhere are blooming - the views can be incredible. By autumn, the Scottish scenery changes with the leaves turning every shade of yellow, red, orange and brown waiting for the white blanket of snow that turns our winter wedding pictures into frosty magical castle wonderlands.

Outside the hustle and bustle of our major cities, the charming Scottish country-side is within easy access. The great thing about Scotland is that you can travel so easily between towns using our excellent road and rail links, making a honeymoon tour of the whole country more than feasible. Altogether, Scotland offers an astonishing variety of landscape for such a small space of land!

If your wedding party is looking for some culture whilst here, Scotland has festivals of all descriptions running throughout the year: most notably the Edinburgh Festival, however, there are many other festivals from the more traditional Highland Games held locally throughout the summer, Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) - where we celebrate like nowhere else in the world, through to literary festivals such as Pitlochry's Winter Words Festival in January and the Edinburgh Book Festival in the summer. For the more visual guest, the increasing number of small and independent art galleries are a joy and there is always the National Museums and Galleries in Glasgow & Edinburgh.

Scotland also has a bustling music and dance scene - and we don't just mean the bagpipes! Whilst any Scot will tell you that the sound of the pipes swells patriotic hearts, Scottish music goes way beyond this. We can recommend a number of wedding bands that have helped create the right ambience to keep a wedding party entertained over the course of an evening.

Finally, we couldn't end a celebration of Scotland without a toast to its whisky, or uisge beatha (from the Gaelic, meaning 'water of life'). With over 500 years of practice, the Scots have whisky distilling down to a very fine art. And the varieties of tastes are as changing as our landscape - in fact the taste does literally change depending where they are distilled - so, when toasting the bride and groom you may need to try a few!

Need we say more, get married in Scotland - it will take your breath away.....
